Description
I grew up all over the United States and Europe. Dad was a career Army Officer and where ever we lived, my parents encouraged us to appreciate and experience the world around us. We always had plenty of paper, pencils, crayons, watercolors and other materials with which to express our individual creatively. We got to visit many Castles , Chateaus, and other famous landmarks that were filled with beautiful art everywhere you turned. I took art classes all through High School and attended Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida to pursue a degree in the Arts. I met and married my first husband at Chipola and put my art pursuits on a back burner to get him through Florida State and raise our three children.
It would be years later while recovering from major surgery that I would again pickup my brushes and paints. I was manager and an instructor at Mae's Paint'N Place in Dothan, Alabama for several years. I started teaching Oils, Acrylics on canvas, Reverse Pen and Ink and the Decorative Arts. I was able to enter several of my pieces in the Peanut Festival where I won many First Place and Best of Category awards. I traveled to Sneads, Florida and Texasville, Alabama to teach art once a week and taught locally at a friends studio. I taught drawing classes .Acrylic and Oils on canvas for Wallace Community College's Community Services Division for several years. I had the awesome privilege to design and construct larger than life Christian Banners and do several wall to wall murals while a member at Christ Church International, an opportunity that was God given.
I now have my own studio and love to work solely from my own photos and inspiration given me by the Holy Spirit. I have an ongoing series, "The Fruits of the Spirit". In each painting, one or all of the words representing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit are hidden through out the painting.Peace, Patience, Love, Faithfulness, Self-Control, Kindness, Joy and Gentleness. I love to explore painting portraits and using a new 3-d approach to painting old buildings and barns using watercolor paper, natural materials, glue, liquid acrylics and water color pencils and scissors. Of course hidden throughout are the Fruits of the Spirit and as always the word Patience is the hardest to find! The Lord has also given my poems to go with each painting that sometimes gives clues to where you can find the words. I hang those next to the paintings to alert the viewer there is more to see in each painting.
